Size Comparison There can be a slight difference in size between the Goldendoodle and the Irish Doodle. This is often due to the size difference between the Golden Retriever and the Irish Setter. In general, Irish Setters are bigger than Golden Retrievers which makes the Irish Doodles slightly larger.

Temperament Comparison With their shared parent of a Poodle, both the Goldendoodle and Irish Doodle are intelligent and friendly. We like the Goldendoodles temperament better, but they don’t enjoy being home alone for extended periods of time.

Coat Type Both the Irish Doodle and the Goldendoodle have wavy and curly coats that are hypoallergenic. Irish Doodles can have more fine hair that does not shed nearly as much as Goldendoodles.

Exercise and Training Both the Goldendoodle and Irish need high amounts of exercise. They are easy to train, but they need constant socialization. We find that the Goldendoodle is slightly more easy to train since they always tend to be food motivated dogs.
