7 Dog Breeds That Look Like Ewoks! (2023)

Dog Breeds that Look Like Ewoks

Here’s what you need to know if you’re searching for dog breeds that look like Ewoks. If you’re a Star Wars fan, surely you’ve seen a dog or a photo of a dog and thought, “that looks just like an Ewok.”

For those of you who haven’t seen the cinematic series, this may sound crazy. But, to explain, an Ewok is a fictional species that is small and furry, almost like a teddy bear.

These creatures inhabit the forest moon of Endor and live in arboreal huts and other simple dwellings. They debuted in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi and appeared in two of their films: The Ewok Adventure, released in 1984, and Ewoks and The Battle for Endor, released in 1985.

If you’re someone who loves dogs and Star Wars, you may be wondering how you can cross two of your favorite fictional and real-life creatures into one companion. Luckily, we’ve got you covered with a list of dog breeds that look like Ewoks.

To accurately create our list, we first have to identify the characteristics which make certain dog breeds resemble the Ewok. First, they have to be fluffy, just like our Ewok friends – they have hair just long enough to run your fingers through.

Second, they need to be a shade of brown. As you can see, Ewoks are usually dark in color, so we’ll be looking specifically at breeds that come in a caramel or chocolate brown color.

The third is their size, Ewoks are pretty tiny, so this list will comprise of puppies no more than about 30 pounds, which is what we would estimate an Ewok to weigh (although we haven’t had the chance to travel to another galaxy and weigh them so that we could be wrong). So now that we’ve established our common traits for our Ewok look-alikes, let’s get started with our list of dog breeds that look like Ewoks.

1. Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu Ewok

First on the list of dog breeds that look like Ewoks are the Shih Tzu. This breed fits all of the characteristics of looking like an Ewok, especially when their coat is this cute chocolatey brown color.

The Shih Tzu’s fluffy coat, cute little nose, and small stature combine to create a puppy that uncannily resembles an Ewok. This breed is lovable, energetic and makes a great companion.

They want nothing more than to spend the day cuddled up next to their owners. Shih Tzus were bred for companionship, so it’s in their genes to be a great addition to the family.

2. Border Terrier

Border Terrier Ewok

Now, this breed isn’t as fluffy as the Ewok, but in our opinion, their cute little face and scruffy-ness were enough to pass for an Ewok. Their coat color, small ears, and snout work in their favor to look like an Ewok. If you’re considering getting a Border Terrier, we hope you lead an active lifestyle.

These puppies were bred to hunt foxes and other small animals and have energy levels through the roof. Playing, walking, and stimulation is a big part of this breed’s life. Although they can be pretty busy, they love to cuddle up with their owners at the end of the day and show lots of affection, so all that hard work is worth it.

3. Cockapoo

Cockapoo Ewok

The Cockapoo is an absolute no-brainer for this list of dog breeds that look like Ewoks. They have the perfect coat color, amount of fluff and come in at 6-19 pounds – perfectly fitting into all of our Ewok categories.

The Cockapoo is a mixed breed of the Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. This dog was bred to make a people-oriented pal who is intelligent, super affectionate, and hardly sheds – the best kinds of dogs. The Cockapoo is considered the “ideal family dog” for its reputation for unconditional love.

4. Lhasa Apso

Lhasa Apso Ewok

The Lhasa Apso is probably a dog breed you haven’t heard of before – but once you see their picture, you can rest assured that they pass the Ewok test. Of course, you can’t deny that perfectly lavish and fluffy coat, just like an Ewoks.

This breed is a thousand years old and served as sentinels at palaces and monasteries isolated high in the Himalayas and associated with the Dalai Lama. How exotic. If you are interested in getting one of these dogs, you can count on your Lhasa Apso to be sweet, comical, and elegant.

5. Pekingese

Pekingese Ewok

Although the Pekingese may be a little harrier than our Ewok friends, we still think they have that “Ewok-quality” that makes them the perfect fit for our list.

This breed comes in many colors such as black, white, gray, and sable – so not all of them look exactly like Ewoks, but this brown/red color is a pretty close match to the Ewoks, and their cute little faces don’t hurt either.

Just like the Lhasa Apso before them, the Pekingese is also known for their royal Asian descent. A Chinese legend says the Pekingese was created by the Buddha, who shrunk a lion down to dog size – can you imagine.

Today, the Pekingese breed, or “Pekes” as some call them affectionately, are known to be charming and confident companions who make excellent watchdogs, as they would do anything to protect their human.

6. Toy Poodle

Toy Poodle Ewok

Just like many others on this list, the Toy Poodle comes in many colors – meaning not all Toy Poodles will look like Ewoks, but we believe that the ones with coats that are this specific brown shade bear a resemblance to the Ewoks.

Toy Poodles are fluffy, small, and cute enough to cuddle, which aids in their resemblance. The Toy Poodle breed is relatively small, standing at just 10 inches and weighing between 4-7 pounds. But, just like the standard-sized Poodles, these puppies are athletic, intelligent, and affectionate.

The Standard Poodle began its development as a retrieving water dog and duck hunter more than 400 years ago, and that mentality still runs through even the smallest versions of this breed.

7. Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terrier Ewok

Last on the list of dog breeds that look like Ewoks is the Yorkshire Terrier. Wrapping up our list is the Yorkshire Terrier, and with good reason. The Yorkshire Terrier’s (or Yorkie’s) face is almost identical to an Ewok’s – try to tell us we’re wrong.

This breed is among the most popular in some American cities. Their feisty personality makes for an excellent watchdog. In the early days of this breed, their jobs were to catch rats and other vermin in the area.
